Neck Lift

1.jpg

A neck lift, also known as a lower rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic surgical procedure aimed at improving the appearance of the neck and jawline by removing excess skin and fat, and tightening the underlying muscles. This procedure is particularly effective for addressing issues such as sagging neck skin, muscle banding in the neck (which creates abnormal contours), and excess fat under the chin (commonly known as a double chin).

Symptoms/Indications

  • Desire for larger or more symmetrical breasts
  • Loss of breast volume after pregnancy or weight loss
  • Correction of congenital breast deformities
  • Restoration of breast shape following mastectomy or injury
  • Boost in self-confidence and body image

Procedure

  • Anesthesia : The procedure typically begins with the administration of anesthesia, either intravenous sedation or general anesthesia, to ensure patient comfort throughout the surgery.
  • Incisions : The surgeon makes incisions, which may vary depending on the technique used. Commonly, incisions are made around the ears, extending behind the ear into the hairline. A small incision under the chin may also be necessary.
  • Reshaping and Tightening : The surgeon then tightens the platysma muscle and removes or repositions fat deposits to achieve a more defined neck contour. Excess skin is trimmed away.
  • Closing Incisions : The incisions are closed with sutures or skin adhesives, and the area is bandaged to minimize swelling and support the new contours.
Recovery

Post-surgery, patients typically experience some swelling and bruising, which can be managed with prescribed medications. A compression garment may be recommended to support the neck during the initial healing period. Most patients can return to normal activities within two weeks, although strenuous activities should be avoided for at least four to six weeks.

Results

The results of a neck lift are long-lasting, providing a more youthful and defined neck and jawline. Patients often report improved self-confidence and satisfaction with their appearance following the procedure. Regular follow-ups with the surgeon are essential to monitor the healing process and ensure optimal outcomes.
